IndiaZooRisk+: Using One Health approaches to understand and co-develop interventions for zoonotic diseases affecting forest communities in India

  • To understand complex and interacting impacts of biological and socio-economic drivers on health outcomes and spread of zoonotic diseases.
  • To co-develop better measures for managing and preventing human disease.
  • Determine the local contextual factors that underpin vulnerability of individuals and forest communities to zoonotic pathogens and their resilience strategies
  • Understand how knowledge sharing within forest communities and with cross-sector practitioners affects zoonotic disease management.
  • Exploring local contextual factors that determine the vulnerability and resilience of forest communities to zoonotic diseases.
  • Determining how the relationship between drivers at the macro- and meso-levels impact and influence knowledge and power relationships at the micro level.
  • Evaluating the various aspects of vulnerability and resilience that characterizes local communities affected by neglected zoonotic diseases.

  1. “Tribal Vaccination Drive Program”, By Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra, Supported by Azim Premji Foundation.

The aim of the project was to achieve universal protection against COVID-19 for the tribal people of Chamarajanagar district in terms of COVID-19 vaccination coverage through a community-led planning approach.

2. Focused Awareness Programme for COVID-19 Vaccination among the Tribal People of Chamarajanagar District.

  • To focus COVID- 19 vaccination awareness campaigns in the selected hamlets with poor to below average vaccination uptake and high hesitancy, and thereby improve vaccination uptake.
  • To develop a sustained awareness strategy for COVID-19 among tribal people in the district using traditional language, media and involving multiple stakeholders locally.
